What Is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy in which a licensed therapist with clinical experience working with couples, most often a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), helps people involved in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflict and improve relationship satisfaction utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. As a therapist, my approach is deeply collaborative, working alongside you to uncover insights and foster self-awareness. Together, we’ll explore strategies for self-care and personal growth, all within the safety of a trustful therapeutic relationship. My goal is to support you in navigating life’s challenges, not just as an individual, but as a part of the larger systems in your life.

What Is Teens and Adolescents Therapy?

Working with teens and adolescents, ages 7-17, requires a unique approach, especially in a remote setting. My therapeutic style is intentional and personal; I prioritize building a rapport by understanding each young individual—what challenges them, what excites them, and what they struggle with. From there, we collaboratively address the needs and concerns expressed by both the child and their parents. For those under 13, parental involvement is crucial, not only to stay informed but to contribute to the therapeutic process. Regularly scheduled meetings with parents ensure transparency about progress and the nature of our sessions. While confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy, any risks or concerns will be communicated, ensuring your child’s safety and well-being are always at the forefront.

What Is Family Therapy?

Family Therapy is a compassionate approach to healing relationships. Its primary focus is on nurturing positive change and development within families and couples. Rather than viewing individuals in isolation, family therapy considers the intricate systems of interaction among family members.

What Does Family Therapy Involve?

Interfamilial Relationships: Family therapy aims to improve relationships and behaviors among family members. It recognizes that a family unit consists of various combinations of loved ones, including parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and even close friends.

Addressing Challenges: Whether adjusting to life changes, coping with aging, dealing with grief, or resolving conflicts, family therapy provides a safe space to explore and address these challenges.

Treating Mental Health Conditions: Trained mental health professionals, such as psychologists, therapists, or counselors (often Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists), use family therapy to treat specific mental health or behavioral conditions within the family context. For instance, it can help address issues like substance use disorder or oppositional defiant disorder.
